Each year, The Massachusetts Adult Immunization Conference planning committee selects the Adult Immunization Champion Award winner based on a nomination and review process. The review committee looks for nominees who have shown leadership, innovation, collaboration, advocacy, and initiative in adult immunization.

Congratulations to Dr. Rocio Hurtado our 2024 MAIC Champion Awardee!

Dr. Hurtado is an Infectious Disease physician with expertise in mycobacterial diseases & tropical medicine and the founder and Director of the Mycobacterial Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Massachusetts with a focus on TB, NTM and Hansen’s disease since 2003. Her practice spans domestic and international health settings with a focus on drug-resistant TB (and HIV co-infection). She also serves a large Latino and foreign-born population living with HIV disease as a primary care physician embedded within her ID practice. She has been an advocate for access to immunizations among communities of color especially during the Covid-19 pandemic where she provided the technical support for the Community Trusted Messengers Program for MGB (Mass General Brigham) partnering with local communities to help address questions and concerns related to Covid immunizations. She cares for many patients with underlying lung disease from all over the world and has witnessed first-hand how life saving immunizations can be for the most vulnerable.
